“Triathlon doesn’t build character, it reveals it” – Unknown

Have you ever woke up one day and thought you needed a change? Not just the color of your hair or maybe trying out a new pair of jeans but a real no sh*t life change? Well I did the summer of 2017; I wanted a big change. But not only a big change…a monumental challenge. Why? Because I wanted to see just how strong I truly am.

Let’s rewind…I swam competitively for about 15 years. I’m no Michael Phelps but I was pretty good; however, after high school, I made the decision to drop swimming and focus on my college experience. From that point on, swimming was pretty dormant in my life. Fast forward to my 31st birthday, I woke up knowing I wanted to see just how strong and (I’ll admit) how big of a badass I am and could grow to be. Having had all of that swimming experience, I decided to research Triathlons. Could I even fathom the idea of doing one triathlon? Then I remembered, the only thing standing in my way would be myself.

So I bought the Essential Week by Week Training Guide and started researching triathlons in my area, Being in Metro DC, the world is my oyster and there are a ton of triathlons to participate in locally and within a 3 hour drive. I wrote out my goal for triathlons and started planning out the races I wanted to compete in. Conveniently enough, the start of 2019 marks 12 weeks to my first tri. So my journey officially starts now.

But here’s the deal...I’m not a sponsored athlete or have triathlons as my full time job. I’m a working woman with family located all over the country, an amazing boyfriend, a travel list a mile long, friends that I love to spend time, and “adulting”. I am just an average every day woman with a monster of a goal. I am a mortal triathlete.

On that note, I welcome you to my blog and invite you to follow along on my triathlon journey.
